Care Info SUN The Golden Barrel Cactus requires plenty of bright light. It should have access to many hours of full sun most days. Access to a South or West-facing window is best. WATER This cactus stores water inside its barrel, making it drought-tolerant and hardy to some periods of neglect. Water deeply after the soil has fully dried. This may be as infrequent as every 1-3 months. Reduce frequency during fall and winter. AIR Their native environment is warm and dry, so average indoor air tends to work well. Keep them in temperatures between 55º-80º and away from sources of humidity. PET FRIENDLY Golden Barrel Cactus needles are not safe for pets or children. AESTHETIC Native to the desert lands of Mexico, the Golden Barrel cactus survives on very little water and plenty of full light. These cacti grow round, resembling a sphere with clusters of spiky golden needles growing along their ribs. In nature, these needles protect them from predators along with a toxic sap that can cause skin irritation in humans. Indoors, they can grow up to 2 feet tall and 10 inches wide.
