CLIENT Home to classic Japanese and European motorcycles, Retro Moto Co is a bike purist’s holy grail. The business owners sought out increased visibility and connection to their market and leased a workshop and showroom at the entry to Fremantle.  CHALLENGE Our client had a modest budget and an enthusiastic group of friends willing to build the project for them. As such, our part in their project team was to design the concept and assist them with delivering the fitout.  The brief was to create a space that showcases the motorbikes, parts and retail offerings, the respected service and customisation workshop and together allow for all enthusiasts to feel welcome to come in and stay a while. DESIGN The design exploration started with with their newly created graphics, inspired by 1980s aesthetic – angles, high gloss, mirrored finishes, monochromatic with splashes of intense colour – led the way. Taking cues from films of the era we explored the space where beautiful and tough overlap. Functionally the space needed to be high impact, connect the street front and rear lane access ways and have the ability to be built simply. Colour was employed to a assist with wayfinding red mark the bike display, orange for retail, and blue delineated the rear workshop area.  OUTCOME Retro Moto Co has seen the enthusiastic return of existing clients and a huge growth in new clientele. The front of house interior has taken their brand to the next level, with the planning able to accommodated their rapid expansion successfully.
