COURSE OVERVIEW
Cold Chain is a common expression for a temperature-controlled supply chain. This should guarantee one common temperature range for pharmaceutical products which need to be handled, stored and transported at a defined temperature or temperature range. Cold chain logistics and supply management is a multibillion-dollar industry, which is constantly growing. This growth is fueled by demand from pharmaceutical, medical and food organizations for specialized storage and transport of drugs, clinical trials, test samples, and temperature sensitive products. This course examines how cold chains can be designed, implemented and managed.
COURSE OBJECTIVE(S)
The objectives of this course are to:
- Provide students with an overview of the peculiarities of cold chain logistics and supply management.
- Assist students to understand the challenges presented by cold chain logistics for pharmaceuticals.
- Introduce students to equipment, facilities and technologies that enable cold chain logistics and supply including blood bank refrigerators, plasma freezers, platelet agitators, refrigerated vans, and plasma thawing equipment.
- Equip students with an understanding of maintenance of cold chain equipment and facilities
- Introduce students to emerging trends in cold chain logistics and supply.
