COURSE OVERVIEW

Health information systems provide technology and enable information exchange for healthcare enterprises, health information exchanges, health insurers, and other participants in the healthcare industry. This is a rapidly changing and evolving field, laying the foundation for improvements in healthcare efficiency, quality, and health outcomes. It is to introduce the student to the organizations, management, and the networked enterprise information technology and infrastructure; key system applications for the digital age; building and managing systems; IT governance and management; healthcare it and information systems procurement; and the Ghana integrated logistics management information system – GHILMIS. 

COURSE OBJECTIVE(S)

On completion of this course, the student should learn about:

• The organizations, management, and the networked enterprise.
• Information technology and systems infrastructure
• The key systems applications for the digital age
• Building and managing systems
• IT and systems governance and management; 
• Healthcare IT and information systems procurement; 
• The Ghana integrated logistics management information system – GHILMIS.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Students are expected, as part of the key learning outcomes, to be able to:

• Explain the organizations, management, and the networked enterprise in healthcare information technology and systems.
• Identify and discuss the Information technology and systems infrastructure available in healthcare information systems management. 
• Identify the key systems applications applicable for the digital age in healthcare information systems management.
• Understand the Building and management of IT and information systems
• Demonstrate knowledge on IT and systems governance and management in healthcare information systems management.  
• Explain the Healthcare IT and information systems procurement processes. 
• Discuss the Ghana integrated logistics management information system – GHILMIS and its related benefits to Ghana’s Public healthcare management systems.
