COURSE OVERVIEW

A supply chain consists of all parties involved, directly or indirectly, in fulfilling a customer request. The supply chain includes not only the manufacturer and suppliers, but also transporters, warehouses, retailers, and even customers themselves. Within each organization, such as a manufacturer, the supply chain includes all functions involved in receiving and filling a customer request. These functions include, but are not limited to, new product development, marketing, operations, distribution, finance, and customer service.

Each stage in a supply chain is connected through the flow of products, information, and funds. There is a close connection between the design and management of supply chain flows; product, information, and funds, and the success of a supply chain.

The focus of this course is the application Level 1 (Process Types) of the Supply Chain Operations Reference (SCOR) Model as an assessment technique for supply chain operations and performance management. This course is segmented into three broad modules consisting of  six units. We will address the first module of this course; Planning and Sourcing by focusing on Models of Supply Chain Operations, Demand Planning and Forecasting, and Inventory Management from the perspective of PLAN. This will be followed by SOURCE by discussing Procurement and Contract Management.

Module two will look at the position of the third, fourth and fifth processes of SCOR in the performance assessment and management of supply chain operations. MAKE, will be discussed through Product Scheduling, and Facility Management.  DELIVER will be addressed through Order Management, and Delivery Scheduling. We will discuss the position of SCOR on RETURN by focusing on defective or discrepant products. Further, we will discuss the four basic types of products in supply chain operations.

Finally, we will discuss Operations Standard Practices from Sales and Operations Planning Perspective, and four key metrics for measuring Supply Chain Performance.

Videos and online supply chain interactive applications will be leveraged in this course to broaden the understanding of participants.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

On completion of this course, participants will be able to:

2. Discuss SCOR Model: Supply chain operations performance assessment technique 
3. Discuss and demonstrate knowledge of the requirements of the level one process types. 
4. Understand and discuss the four basic product forms in supply chain operations
5. Discuss and demonstrate knowledge of operations standard practices using Sales and Operation Planning.
6. Understand and discuss customer, internal efficiency, demand flexibility, and product development metrics.
