Description
COURSE OVERVIEW
Innovation happens when a unique and diverse set of skills and technologies are integrated, and their synergy is used to solve problems effectively. Agricultural supply chain innovation, refers to improvements in the way that agriculture supply chains operate, and more specifically, in the way that products, information, work, and funds flow throughout supply chains to increase effectiveness, competitiveness, resilience to shocks or environmental sustainability and thereby contribute to food security and nutrition, economic development or sustainable natural resource management.
Accelerating and scaling up innovation in agriculture supply chains can trigger the transformation needed to respond to feeding a growing and increasingly population, climate change impacts and to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). It is in this regard that several innovations have been employed in the management of the agricultural supply chain in recent times to create the needed transformation. Innovators, technologies and product cycle improvements have been engaged in the agricultural supply chain to created the need impact. Technologies such as blockchain, warehouse automation, drones, robotics, precision agriculture, IoT-based sensors, hydroponics, smart irrigation and satellite photography have been employed to improve the agricultural supply chain.
In this course, we will look at how supply chain innovations are transforming agriculture; the various types of innovators being engaged in agriculture to transform the supply chain; process innovation in the product life cycle in the agriculture supply chain and the various technologies being employed in agriculture supply chain innovation.
