COURSE OVERVIEW
Disasters and health emergencies have recently happened quite frequently. It is therefore important that health institutions, aid organizations and volunteers have the capacity to adequately adjust to the demands created by these phenomena. Making the supply system for medicines and medical products disaster-resilient will prepare institutions and communities to better withstand and rapidly recover from natural or man-made calamities. Moreover, anticipating the specific needs created by these disasters will enable health institutions, aid organizations and volunteers provide the right service at the right place and time to those affected while preventing the occurrence of secondary crises. This course will introduce students to humanitarian pharmaceutical procurement and supply for both public and private organizations.
COURSE OBJECTIVE(S)
The objectives of this course are to:
- Provide students with an overview of humanitarian pharmaceutical procurement and supply
- Assist students understand the peculiarities of procurement and supply for crises and disasters
- Introduce students to contemporary issues in the procurement and supply of medical and humanitarian products.
- Help students know the roles of the major stakeholders in humanitarian pharmaceutical procurement and supply and understand how to collaborate with them.
