COURSE OVERVIEW

This course is focused on sourcing and procurement of pharmaceuticals. It aims to introduce students to how to maximize the cost benefits considerations in the sourcing and procurement process. Sourcing and procurement cover all the steps from identifying a need for product and services through procuring the product, receipt, invoicing, and processing of payment with vendors. The course offers detailed explanation to the key concepts, strategies, principles and related information that underpins organizational sourcing and procurement of health commodities

COURSE OBJECTIVE(S)

This seeks to assist technical advisors, program managers, warehouse managers, procurement officers, and service providers in estimating the total commodity needs and costs to support successful implementation of national health, program strategies and goals, identifying the funding needs and gaps for procuring the required commodities, and planning procurements and shipment delivery schedules to ensure a sustained and effective supply of health commodities.

At objective of this course is to:

• Expose students to leading edge concepts and principles in strategic sourcing as pursued by leading edge firms
• Provide students with an understanding and practice with the strategies, approaches, and methods for realizing a competitive advantage through the firm’s sourcing processes and relationships with suppliers.
• Highlight the importance of global sourcing in supply chain management, 
• Feature global sourcing process.
• Provide students with an understanding of the impact that sourcing and purchasing management have on the success and profitability of firms in today’s business environment.
